4 Tips to get your resume in check for the 11th Annual Spring Conference
A polished, professional resume is highly important to have no matter what career you are pursuing. Not only is the resume’s content important, but so is its format. It is easy to get overwhelmed when crafting your resume, but these tips will ease your frustrations and help you to develop the best resume yet!
Match your resume’s format to your industry
There are generally two types of resumes: a creative resume and a professional resume. A creative resume may have color, icons, and creative layouts, while a professional resume tends to only be in black and white with straightforward information. Those in the marketing industry tend to use a creative resume to showcase their creative skills, while those in the finance industry use a more traditional layout for their resume.
Make your header easy to read
The header is the first section people see when they look at a resume. Make sure your resume header is easy to read. You want to include your full name, address, email, phone number. Bonus points if you can fit your LinkedIn URL!
Use SAR statements
The experience section of your resume should explain what you did in the position. Use SAR (situation action result) statements to make sure your description is effective. First, describe the situation and your tasks. Then, explain what you did in that position, and close the statement with what you accomplished. Here is an example: “Greeted customers and built strong customer satisfaction by proactively listening to and resolving any concerns, resulting in a positive impression of the brand and improved customer service ratings. ”
Personalize with interests
Resumes can get boring and repetitive for recruiters. On my resume, I like to include a section highlighting my interests. Including a section like this makes the resume more personal and shows your personality.
