3 Tips on How to Stay Motivated This Spring Semester

Spring semester motivation is always hard to come across. The excitement of a new school year is gone and the drag of winter has fully kicked in for students. Not sure how to stay motivated? No worries, GWWIB Board Members have got you covered with their top tips.

“Write down your goals somewhere you can constantly see them”- Michelle Bryce, GWWIB President

My biggest tip to stay motivated is to write down your goals somewhere where you can constantly see them -whether that be in your planner, on your phone, or on a piece of paper hanging above your desk. This way every time you happen to glance at where they are written, you are reminded of your goals and the meaning behind them. For example, at the beginning of each semester I write down what I want to accomplish on a note in Google Keep (if you don’t have the app, I highly recommend it) and then I pin the note so it remains at the top. I also use Google Keep to write down reminders and make lists, which happens often. Therefore, everytime I open the app I am reminded of the goals I set out to achieve at the beginning of the semester. But in order to actually achieve the goals, you have to adopt the mindset of wanting to complete them. It is very easy to write down what you want to achieve and then push it to the back burner. But if you honor your original intentions, and stay determined to achieve them, you will be motivated to accomplish any goal you set.

“Track your progress through daily and weekly to-do lists.” - Ashley Ann, New York Trip Co-Chair

My top tip for staying motivated is to track your progress through daily and weekly to-do lists. In the midst of finals or any busy week, the number of things to do can be overwhelming. Break it down by day and by week, and you’ll be able to get a more holistic view of how much time you need to commit to each task! Checking off boxes every day will feel satisfying and motivate you to keep going.

“Set concrete goals” -Maria Sanchez

I stay motivated by keeping myself busy and setting concrete goals of what I want to achieve. Writing down my goals gives me a sense of ownership, that because it is already written down somewhere I can achieve it. A big factor of what keeps me motivated is that I am truly inspired and passionate about everything I do. Motivation is about energy, the energy that you bring to every activity that you are performing. It is about staying positive and realizing that everything is going to be ok in the long-run. Motivation is about a continuous learning experience when sometimes you might fail but if you continue to try, you will achieve your goal. For me, motivation is about perseverance, about believing that you will become better eventually. Motivation for me is about believing in myself.
